TGlass 3D Printer Material

TGlass or TGlase is sometimes referred to as Tough Glass – is a mostly clear non-toxicity which has enabled it to be FDA approved for use in food containers and in other applications involving the direct contact with food. Also, even though TGlass isn’t biodegradable it is considered a 100% reclaimable/recycle product material. TGlass can even be mixed in with waste, such as disposed water bottles, to make new production 3D print material.

TGlass Features
TGlass was heavily motivated by the fact that many in the 3D Printing Community have PLA-Only 3D Printers. PLA Filament is increasing in popularity as it is non-toxic, releases no fumes and a milder odor than ABS Filament; the fumes it does release smell like syrup rather than hot plastic. PLA 3D Printers can only 3d print at lower temperatures. TGlass is targeted as a low temperature industrial filament.

T-glase’s clarity supports industry’s requirements for non-destructive evaluation of 3D Printed parts.

T-Glass Possible Uses
TGlass is commonly used in the production for projects needing a stiff material, FDA approved for use in many food containers. ◦Emits almost no odors or fumes. TGlass is commonly recycled.

HDPE Possible Disadvantages
Products made of TGlass do not readily biodegrade in landfills.

What is a STL File Format – Stereolithography – Standard Tessellation Language

STL is a file format native to the stereolithography CAD software created by 3D Systems. STL ( STereoLithography ) is also known as Standard Tessellation Language or Standard Triangle Language. This file format is supported by many other software packages; it is widely used for rapid prototyping and computer-aided manufacturing (additive manufacturing or 3D printing). STL files describe only the surface geometry of a three dimensional object without any representation of color, texture or other common CAD model attributes. The STL format specifies both ASCII and binary representations. Binary files are more common, since they are more compact.

3D Printing With Metals (DMLS)

The direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) process is sometimes referred to as metal 3d printing or a metal 3d printer. DMLS uses a laser beam to melt 20-40 micron layers of metal powder on top of each other to create metal parts. This additive process is similar to 3d printing, although metal powder is spread across a build platform and melted instead of a plastic filament being extruded.

Parts created using DMLS are fully dense metal with excellent mechanical properties. Other metal 3d printing processes exist which use a binder, although they produce parts which are not fully dense metal. The DMLS process can produce complex geometries which traditional CNC machining processes are not capable of.
